Unfortunately, as you are aware, there are people out there who like to operate sophisticated scams throughout the year, especially around the festive period.
The Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council have issued a post on Facebook warning of a recent attempt to scam local residents. It reads:
It has been brought to our attention that there is a scam whereby residents are receiving phone calls instructing them to pay a fee in order to reduce their Council Tax.
Please be advised that the Council will not solicit members of the public by cold calling in this way.
Members of the public should not provide any financial or personal information, whatsoever. If requested to do so over the phone, please report these attempts to us directly by calling Customer Services on 01443 425002
To repeat, if you encounter any situations where someone claims to be the Council, contact them straight away.
